This church at the Lateran Palace is the cathedral of the Church of Rome and of the world, ranking above all other churches in the Catholic Church, including St. Peter's Basilica in the Vatican.  It's official name is the Archbasilica of the Most Holy Savior and Sts. John the Baptist and the Evangelist at the Lateran. Read more.

Today is Martinmas Day.  See how this feast day may have led to Veteran's Day.
  Read the legend of his meeting with the poor beggar, depicted to the left.
  Go through your closet and purge your wardrobe of unnecessary or surplus items and donate them to St. Vincent de Paul Society or some other organization that helps the poor.
   
  Read why his symbol is the goose. Cook a special dinner of roast goose or duck in honor of St. Martin. Bake some horseshoe cookies. See more recipes.
   
  St. Martin is patron saint of wine growers, wine makers and vintners. In France, the tasting of the new wine is done today. Have a Martinmas gathering, serving this year's Noveau Beaujolais wine from France.

Kyrie eleison - O Antiphons - St. Jude, Advent
The words Kyrie eleison mean "Lord, have mercy" in Greek. In our Advent penitential rite we sing these ancient words to Christ. Our invocations to Christ are based on the “Great O Antiphons.”
