Receiving Sacraments at St. Jude

Order of Chrisitian Initiation of Adults - OCIA

For those who are interested in learning more about the Catholic Church.

Tuesday, 7:00 p.m., Parish Hall

The Order of Christian Initiation of Adults is a faith journey for those desiring to enter the Catholic Church or for those who wish to complete their initiation into the Church.  These "inquirers" include: non-baptized persons, people baptized in another Christian tradition, or those Catholics baptized but never catechized.   The Sacraments of Initiation are Baptism, Confirmation, and Eucharist.

These are a variety of stages in the process, each marked by a Rite celebrated in the midst of the assembly.  Pre-Catechumenate is a time to ask questions about the Church; Catechumenate provides a time of catechesis, prayer, fellowship, and conversion; Purification and Enlightenment is the Lenten time of prayer and fasting to prepare for the Easter Sacraments of Initiation; and Mystagogia is a time of reflection to allow the neophytes (new Catholics) a deeper understanding and living of the Sacred Mysteries which have been celebrated.

Sacrament of Reconciliation

Saturday           9:30 - 10:30 a.m., 2:30 - 3:30 p.m.
Weekdays       7:45 - 8:00 a.m., or any time by appointment.

Communal Celebrations of the Sacrament: on the Thursdays before Christmas, Holy Week, Pentecost Sunday, and the Feast of the Triumph of the Cross.

Sacrament of Matrimony

Because the Sacrament of Matrimony is a prophetic sign of radical commitment within the assembly of the faithful, arrangements must be made six months in advance.  The Preparation Process involves several meetings with the presider, four meetings with married couples who are part of the Parish Sponsor Couple Program, meetings with a couple who administers the FOCCUS Inventory, a session at St. Joseph Hospital on Natural Family Planning, and two meetings with the Director of Music Ministries to plan music for the wedding Liturgy.  A Parish Wedding Coordinator assists the couple with the liturgical details.

Sacrament of the Sick and Communion Calls

St. Jude Church takes seriously our baptismal call to care for the sick.  Communal celebrations of the Sacrament of the Sick are celebrated four times a year, on the first Sunday of Advent and Lent, the Sunday before Pentecost, and the Sunday closest to the Feast of the Triumph of the Cross.  Please request the Sacrament whenever needed.  Parishioners who are home bound, or in the hospital, or nursing homes can receive Holy Communion every Sunday from lay ministers of Communion and once a month from one of the priests.

Contact:  Barb Stemen at the Parish Office, especially for serious illness.

Funerals at Saint Jude

In the face of death, the Church confidently proclaims that God has created each person for eternal life and that Jesus, the Son of God, by his death and resurrection, has broken the chains of sin and death that bound humanity. Christians celebrate the funeral rites to offer worship, praise, and thanksgiving to God for the gift of a life which has now been returned to God, the author of life and the hope of the just.
