Safe Environment for Volunteers: Adult and YouthgetInvolved

We, at St. Jude Church and School along with the Diocese of Fort Wayne-South Bend, its parishes, schools, departments and related institutions, thank you for your offer of service on behalf of our diocese.  We work to bring the message of Christ and his healing presence to everyone.

We are devoted to the mission of Jesus Christ and to the treatment of every single person, especially our beloved young, with dignity and in the spirit of the Gospel of Christ.

Below are the steps to be taken to volunteer at St. Jude School and St. Jude church. All adults will follow these procedures. Any Youth volunteers (age 14-17) should contact Tera Hogan directly.

Step 1:

As required by diocesan policy, all priests, deacons, seminarians, employees, and volunteers (who will have regular contact with young people), must have a criminal background check prior to beginning their service.   In order to complete one, please contact Tera Hogan via email at thogan@stjudefw.org. Background check procedures will be emailed to you.

Step 2:

In order to get to know you better, you will be asked to complete an application for us.  If you have not done so already the link to do this will be provided for you in the email from step 1.   You will click here for what applies: Volunteer or Employee.

Step 3:

You must complete training in creating and maintaining a safe environment in which all persons, especially children, can grow in faith.    This training is meant to protect children and also those who minister to them.  Training includes watching a 25 minute video and reading a policy and procedure manual.   After watching the training video, you are required to print and sign the form stating you have completed this.    After reading the appropriate policy and procedure manual, you are required to sign the last page verifying you have read and agree to all information contained within it.  This link will also be provided for you.

The employee or volunteer application, verification forms for the training video and policy manual should be submitted via email to Tera Hogan (thogan@stjudefw.org). If you aren’t able to email, then send the forms via fax or US Postal Service (contact information below) or stop by the Parish Office from 8am-4pm.

Thank you very much for your service to our diocese. Together may we bring the peace and love of God to all we serve.
