Religious Education

We are very excited about some changes to our religious Education Program beginning this fall.  For kindergarten through sixth grade we are moving to a family catechesis program.  Families will attend together the first Tuesday of the month.  Children will meet with their catechists and parents will receive their packets for the month and all of the appropriate materials for their children.  Time will be spent giving parents a short presentation which will serve to support parents in the home lessons that families can work through together.  These lessons can be shared around the dinner table, allowing everyone to learn and grow together.

For the last few years our second graders have been participating in First Communion lessons at home.  The feedback has been tremendously enthusiastic and we decided it was time to transition to a family based approach.

Family Formation has been around for more than thirty years.  This allows families to grow in holiness and greater understanding of the beauty of our Catholic faith and traditions.  The program is based on the liturgical year of the church.  Lessons will be tied to the topics of the Masses, saints’ lives and feasts, throughout the liturgical seasons of the year.

For seventh and eighth grade students, we will continue to attend Mass each week and have class afterward.  Classes will be held at Thaddeus Hall.  It is not going to be a “classroom” experience.  It will be more relational for the middle schoolers.  We all know it’s not fun to go to school after they have been in school all day.   We are adding a regular service component to our calendar.  This is going to be an exciting year for St. Jude’s Religious Education program!

Totus Tuus

The Totus Tuus summer catechetical program is a week long parish mission for youth from grade one through twelve. It is dedicated to sharing the gospel and promoting the catholic faith through evangelization, catechesis, Christian witness, and Eucharistic worship.

Totus Tuus provides an environment in which the Eucharist is central to the day. Prayer provided the structure, but the Mass is truly the “source and summit” of the daily schedule.

Totus Tuus inspires young people to go to Jesus Christ through Mary by meditating on the mysteries of the Rosary.

Totus Tuus instructs young people in the tenets of the Catholic faith to cultivate a firm intellectual grounding and a solid personal relationship with Christ.

Totus Tuus encourages young people to begin discerning God’s call in their life to be married, a priest, a religious, or single.

Totus Tuus demonstrates that one can be a faithful, practicing Catholic and still have fun.
